Oneplan is not a medical aid. Its health plans are short-term (non-life) insurance underwritten by Bryte Insurance Company Limited and administered by Oneplan Underwriting Managers (Pty) Ltd, so they are outside the Medical Schemes Act.
That matters in practice. Oneplan pays fixed limits for doctor visits, medicine and hospital events, it does not have to pay Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs), and its cheapest plan has no in-hospital benefits at all. Illness cover in hospital starts on Core Plus and is capped per insured event.
This page sets out the six health plans, what they do and do not cover, who they suit and what a medical scheme would give you instead.
What Oneplan is
Oneplan's site says it is "a non-life Insurance product, not a medical aid". It is not a benefit option regulated by the Medical Schemes Act. Oneplan also sells gap cover, plus pet, car and household insurance, which are separate products.
A medical scheme must pay PMBs in full and is regulated by the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS). Insurance pays the amounts written in the policy. Read medical aid versus health insurance before you compare the two on price.

OnePlan contact numbers
Checked on 29 September 2026 against OnePlan's official website. Numbers change, so confirm on the linked page before you call. A scheme will not ask you to pay into a new bank account over the phone: hang up and call the official number if anything feels off.
| What you need | How to reach OnePlan |
|---|---|
| Call centre (Mon-Fri 8:00-17:00, Sat 8:00-12:00) | 010 0010 141 |
| Health hospital authorisation, admission and emergency (24/7); the page prints this line directly under the call-centre number, so the number is presumably the same | 010 0010 141 |
| WhatsApp (business hours) | 083 794 5452 |
| App | Oneplan app: Access your policy, claims and in-app chat; claims are paid onto the Oneplan Claim Card. |

Hospital cover for illness
The Health Plan says outright that in-hospital benefits are not available on that plan, and the Core Plan has accident cover but no illness-in-hospital cover. From Core Plus, illness in hospital is covered up to a limit per insured event, and Oneplan says the plans give access to private hospitals including Netcare, Life and Mediclinic.
The limit is the catch. If a hospital account is higher than the limit, the difference is yours. A scheme hospital plan pays the account at the scheme rate and pays PMB conditions in full, without a Rand cap per event. Also note that the plan document says certain illnesses in hospital are excluded for 12 months. See our hospital plan guide.
How claims and waiting periods work
Healthcare cover amounts are paid onto a Oneplan Claim Card, a MasterCard-based card, before you pay the doctor, so you spend from the card rather than the plan paying providers directly. There is also a Oneplan app for your policy, claims and in-app chat.
Waiting periods on the health plans:
- 30 days for doctor visits.
- 90 days for dentistry.
- 12 months for optometry.
- 6 months for dread disease.
- Pre-existing conditions are excluded for a maximum of 12 months, and late joiner fees may be applied.
Dependants older than 21 cannot be signed up on the health plans. Compare with the limits on a scheme in our waiting periods guide.
Oneplan gap cover
Oneplan's gap range (Core Hospital Plan, Executive Hospital Plan, Core Plan and Executive Plan) is for people who already belong to a medical scheme. Oneplan advertises that it doubles or quadruples the scheme payout, at 200% or 400% depending on the plan, and says there are no sub-limits. Oneplan also states that the savings gap benefit is not covered if you belong to a scheme hospital plan only.
The benefit table on Oneplan's page does not label its plan columns clearly, so ask which multiple applies to the plan you are quoted. Online sign-up offers 30% off the first two months of premiums. Read the gap cover guide first.
Who Oneplan suits, and the medical scheme alternative
It can suit a healthy person or family who wants a low-cost way to pay for GP visits, scripts and dentistry, with a fixed accident and illness limit on the higher plans.
It does not suit anyone who expects open-ended hospital cover, PMB protection, or a plan that pays specialists and chronic care in full. The two cheapest plans have no illness cover in hospital.
Scheme alternatives. From the 2026 figures: Bonitas BonCore at R1 275 for every beneficiary, Fedhealth flexiFED Savvy hospital plan at R1 155 for the main member, and income-based Discovery KeyCare Start and Momentum Ingwe. What changed for 2026, how to join and how to complain
We found no announced 2026 or 2027 increase on Oneplan's site, and the price pages carry no year, so confirm the current premium and limits when you apply. Join through oneplan.co.za, the app or the call centre.
If you have a complaint, raise it with Oneplan first. If it is not resolved, complaints about insurance go to the National Financial Ombud, not the CMS.
Frequently asked questions
What is the OnePlan contact number?
According to OnePlan's website (checked 29 September 2026), the member line is 010 0010 141, and for an emergency or ambulance call 010 0010 141. Confirm on the official site before calling, because numbers change.
Is Oneplan a medical aid?
No. Oneplan says it is a non-life insurance product, not a medical aid. The health plans are underwritten by Bryte Insurance Company Limited.
Does Oneplan cover hospital stays?
The Health Plan does not, and the Core Plan covers accidents only. From Core Plus, illness in hospital is covered up to a limit per insured event, from R45 000 on Core Plus up to R85 000 on Executive.
Does the Oneplan hospital plan cover PMBs?
No. Oneplan is outside the Medical Schemes Act, so it does not have to pay PMBs in full. A registered scheme must.
How does Oneplan pay claims?
Cover amounts are paid onto a MasterCard-based Oneplan Claim Card before you pay the doctor. You then use the card to pay.
What are the Oneplan waiting periods?
They include 30 days for doctor visits, 90 days for dentistry, 12 months for optometry and 6 months for dread disease. Pre-existing conditions are excluded for up to 12 months.
Can I cover older children or dependants?
Oneplan says you cannot sign up a dependant older than 21 on the health plans.
Do Oneplan premiums stay the same?
Not necessarily. Oneplan says premiums depend on your risk profile, so the plan-card prices are starting prices. We found no announced increase for 2026 or 2027.
Who do I complain to about Oneplan?
Oneplan first, then the National Financial Ombud, because it is insurance and not a medical scheme.
